Fortified

A type of wine whose alco­hol content is augmented by the addition of grape brandy or grape neutral spirits, to stop the fermentation and often pre­serve some of the natural sweetness of the wine, as in sherry and port. The alco­hol content is increased to at least 14% and not more than 24%, usually around 20%.
